Small cell antennas are being installed on every utility pole in many urban cities, including Arlington, Virginia, Potomac Maryland and other cities across the Washington DC metro area. This antennas will be for deployment of the new 5G frequencies for cell phones, wireless devices, and connected appliances.

    The Internet Of Things Poses Human Health Risks: Scientists Question The Safety Of Untested 5G Technology At International Conference.
    Replicated research shows that Millimeter waves – used by the Department of Defense in crowd control weapons – interacts with human skin and eyes.
    Israeli research studies presented at an international conference reveal that the same electromagnetic frequencies used for crowd control weapons form the foundation of the latest network – branded as 5G – that will tie together more than 50 billion devices as part of the Internet of Things. Current investigations of wireless frequencies in the millimeter and submillimeter range confirm that these waves interact directly with human skin, specifically the sweat glands. Dr. Ben-Ishai of the Department of Physics, Hebrew University, Israel recently detailed how human sweat ducts act like an array of helical antennas when exposed to these wavelengths. Scientists cautioned that before rolling out 5G technologies that use these frequencies, research on human health effects needed to be done first to ensure the public and environment are protected.

    Massachusetts' Cece Doucette Letter to PGCPS CEO Dr. Maxwell on Cell Tower & Wireless Radiation

    Dear Superintendent Maxwell, Principal McNeill and Ms. Cox,

    Please allow me to introduce myself, my name is Cece Doucette from Ashland, Massachusetts where we have become the first public school district in the nation to adopt Best Practices for Mobile Devices. I would like to share information with you on the implications of T-Mobile and Milestone Communications putting a cell tower on your school property.

    Current Science

    Last spring, the U.S. National Toxicology Program began reporting out findings from a multi-year $25M study on cell phone radiation. They went in expecting to prove it was safe, and instead, in their very first set of findings, found statistically significant DNA damage, brain and heart tumors with none in the control group. More findings are expected this year.

    Upon learning this, the FCC, rather than protecting the public, pushed to get 5G spectrum approved and now they are pushing to get the infrastructure in before any more of the NTP findings can be reported out. 

    Further, BioMed Research International just published a peer-reviewed study concluding "RF radiation should be regarded as a human carcinogen causing glioma."

    Why We Don't Know

    Unfortunately, much of mainstream media is funded by telecom advertising revenues, so these important studies do not get reported out to the public due to conflict of interest. This issue is coming mainstream though as more citizens become ill. Massachusetts has five bills in the legislature to help educate and protect the public, including one for schools. 

    The Whole Story

    I have investigated this issue deeply to protect the children and staff in my public schools. On this journey I have had the privilege of working with many of the world's top microwave radiation scientists, doctors, teachers and technologists. I have also been asked to help educate school administrators across the U.S. At each juncture I see the same points of confusion since the industry has been so effective at promoting the benefits and convenience of wireless technology without informing us of the biological hazards.     Just Say No

    I realize this puts your district in a precarious position. The industry is offering you residuals, which would likely be very helpful, but these funds will be at the expense of the health and safety of your students and staff. I hope you will follow the lead of the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and begin to reduce, not increase, wireless radiation exposure:

    Children, fetuses and those with known health conditions are especially vulnerable to this kind of radiation. It is linked to not only DNA damage and cancers, but the skyrocketing increase in autism, Alzheimer's, cognitive impairment, learning disabilities, behavioral issues, depression, anxiety, insomnia, headaches, nose/earbleeds, nausea and more. Digital addiction is also becoming an issue for students and adults alike, it hits the same brain receptors as drugs, alcohol, tobacco, gambling, pornography, etc. All wi-fi all the time is not in the best interest of the industry, but not us or our children.

     Dear Officers of the School Administration and the PTSA,

     I understand that a cell tower is under consideration for installation on the grounds of your school.

     Please know that such an installation is definitely NOT in the interest of the health of the students, faculty, and staff of the school.  The radiofrequency radiation produced by cell towers is a form of electromagnetic radiation, and electromagnetic radiation presents many health risks.  I attach a paper that explains why, with documentation.

     I also attach a second paper, with documentation, that explains that the use of many other wireless devices in the school, including Wi-Fi, also presents health risks.  In fact, the Maryland Children's Environmental Health and Protection Advisory Council (CEHPAC) has just issued an important report about electromagnetic radiation.  The report recommends that Wi-Fi be phased out of Maryland's schools because of the health risks to the children.  In its report, CEHPAC indicates that it will next address cell phones in the schools.  CEHPAC advises Maryland's Governor on the health of the environment in the schools in our state.  You can read the report here:

    Whatever the status of the use of Wi-Fi and other wireless devices in your school, adding to the electromagnetic radiation in your school by installing a cell tower on school grounds is very much to be avoided.

     Any payments that may be offered to your school by the provider of this cell tower, as inducements to accept the cell tower, will pale in comparison to the health risks for everyone, not only those in the school but also those in the surrounding community.

     If interest persists in having a cell tower located on school grounds, do consider the following actions, undertaken with the assistance of an attorney, especially for the second and third suggestions below:
    INSIST that the company providing the cell tower give the school, at least 6 months in advance of any decision by the school to proceed, written documentation proving the safety of the cell tower for the health of children and adults.  You can then have that documentation reviewed by impartial experts.  Remember that the burden of proof of safety is on the company providing the cell tower.  There is no burden of proof on YOU to prove that the cell tower is not safe.
    INSIST that the contract with the company providing the cell tower acknowledges that the company accepts liability for all harm done to the health of anyone caused by the electromagnetic radiation that the cell tower produces.  
    INSIST that the contract with the company providing the cell tower states that the company will remove the cell tower, and all supporting equipment, from the school grounds, at no cost or penalty to the school, if the SCHOOL later determines that the cell tower presents a health risk.
    If the company providing the cell tower insists that the cell tower is safe but WON'T accept the above three requirements, then you will have your answer about how confident the company is that the radiation from the cell tower is truly safe.For the sake of the health of the children in your school, the health of the faculty and staff in your school, and the health of the community surrounding your school, DO REJECT the installation of a cell tower on your school grounds.  There is not need to make this tragic mistake.
    Please feel free to share this message and the attached two papers with anyone one you wish.

     Questions We Want Answers To:
    1.The Milestone Annual Reports show that PGCPS is getting about 1000 to 2,000 a month per school for these towers. What is the amount PGCPS will get for the ERHS Tower every month?


    2. Why isn’t ERHS getting some money for having a tower on it’s land? What is the benefit for the students from this monstrosity?


    3. Why wasn't the balloon test done with the 20 additional feet that the tower can go up. As I understand it the tower can go up this amount with no community input.


    4. I understand that these towers have compounds with back up power. Back up power is usually large cabinets of lead acid batteries and diesel or gas generators and this results in the area becoming registered as a HAZMAT site. Will the site be registered with the fire department by Milestone or the Cellular carriers?
    5. What type of back up generator will this compound have?  Will it be noisy? Will it run on diesel fuel ? How often will it be tested and for how long?
    Some new cell tower compounds require a back up generator that must be tested weekly. Generators can run on diesel fuel and that fuel must be replenished. Diesel fuel fumes are  a classified Carcinogen per the World Health Organization.   
    6. How many vendors are allowed to be on the tower? How many total antennas?


    7. What are the terms of access for vendors and their contractors?
    Vendors AND their subcontractors must have 24/7 access to the cell tower for maintenance and emergencies and may come in to service their antennas when needed. What is the procedure they follow? Where do they sign up? Who do they check in with at PGCPS? What about after hours? What background checks are done and how do you ensure compliance with contractors and subcontracters.


    8. Please explain the "fall zone” and “strike zone” of the tower? Fall zone refers to area around tower that becomes hazardous if the tower were to fall or crumble. Strike zone - meaning the space around it whereby falling things could strike a person and this includes ice, tools held by maintenance and parts of the tower. Cell towers can form ice sheets that fall from the top. The bottom of the tower must have have fall zone so that there is protection from these falling ice sheets. The Department of Labor states there s a problem with things falling from towers and killing, maiming people. Read it here.
    9. Does every teacher staff and parent at the school know that the radiation the tower emits is a Class 2 B carcinogen with no safety assurances that researchers say "needs more research"?


    10. How high will the fence be? What will it be made of? What will keep kids from climbing the fence?   how can you ensure safety? It will look like a jungle gym.


    11. Where does the money go once it goes to the general fund?  
    12. How was the community notified? Many people did not get notices.
    13. How were the students notified?
    14. Many students use that area to walk to school. How will it impact them?
